"How To"

Performance Documentation | Dance & Trace, 2024

“How To” is a performative exploration of movement, presence, and the ephemeral traces we leave behind. Working through the body as both subject and tool, this piece investigates the act of dancing not as choreography, but as raw expression, a way of writing through space. I approached the project as a physical dialogue between motion and mark-making. Using my bare body and black paint, I performed a continuous movement sequence inside a white-walled corner, allowing each gesture to leave a visible imprint on the surrounding surfaces. What emerged was not just a record of motion, but a reflection of emotion, rhythm, pressure, and release. The work was captured through a series of photographs and a short film (01'57”), documenting both the physical process and its layered traces. As the movements accumulate, so do the marks, until the body becomes a presence felt even in absence. At its core, “How To” is an intimate guide, not to dancing, but to letting go. It is a response to the need to move, to express, and to exist boldly and physically in the present moment, leaving something behind.

In a world shaped by constant change, biological, technological, and cultural, I see the human being as a living example of adaptability. Metamorphosis is my response to this idea, a personification of our ability to reshape not only ourselves, but the environments we move through. I created a backpack that expands beyond its traditional purpose. It unfolds first into a chair, a place to pause, rest, and reflect, and then into a table, offering a surface for connection and interaction. This transformation from carrying object to functional furniture mirrors the ways we adjust and reconfigure ourselves in the face of shifting contexts. The backpack became a symbol of mobility, of exploration, traits that feel essential today. With each fold and unfolding, it reflects the quiet but powerful transitions we go through as we adapt to what life demands of us. Through this project, I wanted to invite reflection on how transformation lives within us. Just as the object shifts form, so do we, endlessly evolving, rebuilding, and reshaping who we are in relation to the world around us.

"Language of motion"

Language of Motion is an artist book that explores movement as a visual language. By tracing the lines created through motion, both captured in photographs and drawn over them, I investigated how the body and the movements leave behind marks that can be read, repeated, and reinterpreted. Each composition becomes a sentence, each gesture a form of writing. This project is an attempt to translate the invisible rhythm of passing moments into a system of signs, where motion becomes memory, and lines become language.

"In-Between Bodies"

“In Between Bodies” explores how movement and space influence each other, and how, through choreography, the human body becomes a tool for navigating and reshaping its environment. What began as a curiosity about how dancers interact with each other and with space evolved into a deeper investigation of spatial perception, embodiment, and the psychological implications of movement. I was inspired by choreographers such as Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, William Forsythe, Oskar Schlemmer, and Damien Jalet, all of whom challenge conventional ideas of space in performance. Their work helped me rethink how movement not only exists in space but also creates space. My own research bridges choreography, perception, and design, integrating Gestalt psychology to understand how the viewer interprets moving bodies and their relation to the background. This project moves beyond performance. It is about perception, about what exists between bodies, between body and audience, body and environment.

"Fueled by Motion"

This piece combines frames from my choreography "It’s Over" with painted elements to explore the relationship between movement and visual expression. The photographs, taken in front of a graffiti wall, capture moments of action and energy, while the acrylic paint adds an additional layer of rhythm and texture. By combining dance and painting, the work connects physical motion with artistic mark-making, highlighting movement as a driving force in my creative process.

In Dressing My Rituals, I transformed eight months of my family's tea-drinking ritual into a wearable form. By collecting, drying, and painting tea bags, I stitched together not just a waistcoat, but a tangible representation of shared daily habits, comfort, and intimacy. This piece explores the relationship between the small, routine moments of our lives and their lasting emotional impact. Through the act of creating this garment, I reflected on how everyday rituals, like sharing tea, become a quietly profound part of our identities, leaving invisible threads that bind us together.
